Whilst offsite workers need to be supported and engaged as part of the wider team and workplace they do need specific skills and capabilities to be successful. The skills and knowledge could include but not be limited to: - Subject matter expertise across the knowledge ares require to deliver outcomes
- Information skills with the ability to collaborate as a virtual team member
- Motivation and be able to operate with initiative and self direction
Skills in conducting and participating in virtual meetings
- Technology skills eg. IM, e-mail, VC and social tools to stay socially connected to co-workers
- Planning and organistaion skills.

An offsite worker needs the computer equipment, Internet, phone etc. They then need the necessary software to be able to communicate with others and access files from the main office. An example of this would be to have software such as Skype installed on their computer and the use of Google docs, or Dropbox. Good time management skills are essential as is the ability and knowledge to complete the tasks assigned.

I think that there are several skills that are required for someone who works remotely as follows:
• Standard job-related skills: Teleworkers must have the skills to be able to undertake the job role. If there are any gaps these would need to be addressed as soon as possible as they will be working independently of the other staff on a day to day basis .
• Technical skills: Teleworkers must have the technical skills to operate any programs that they use remotely as there is no one sitting at the desk next to them that they can ask.
• Time- and personal-management skills: Teleworkers must have the ability to be able to prioritise their tasks. The must be able to plan and organize their day to get the most out of it.
• Team management skills: Remote workers must be team players as despite not working in the ‘office’ they need to be able to interact , share information, and help other members who work remotely. The best way to do this is to ensure that the channels of communication are always open.
• Personality: These workers need to be motivated and independent workers so that the employer can trust them to complete the various tasks required of the job.
